Faculty

Faculty includes teaching and research faculty (T&R), research faculty, adjunct teaching faculty, and administrative and professional (A/P) faculty positions.

• Faculty are covered by the Faculty Handbook and university policies.

Staff

Staff includes classified staff and university staff. All new salaried non-faculty staff, including transfers from other state agencies, hired on or after July 1, 2006 are university staff. Classified staff hired prior to July 1, 2006, who have not elected to convert to university staff, will remain classified staff even if they receive transfers or promotions to other Virginia Tech staff positions.

• Classified staff are subject to the policies and procedures of the Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM).
• University staff are covered by current university Human Resources policies, unless otherwise noted, or will be covered by the policies and benefits for classified staff.

Wage

All wage employees, including 1,500-hour, student wage, emergency hire, and sporadic hire, (regardless of hire date) are covered under university Human Resources policies.
