A/P faculty classification review

Use this service for A/P faculty positions that require a classification review. This service request must be submitted by the college or department HR representative.

Annual market review

This process provides a framework for Virginia Tech Senior Management Areas (SMAs) to review A/P faculty and staff salaries, and to move salaries to a more competitive position, based on available budget. The staff in-band process is part of this annual market review.

Compensation Analysis Requests

Use this service for faculty or staff positions that require a market evaluation or classification review. This service request must be submitted by the college or department HR representatives.

Competitive offer

Use this process when a department seeks to make a counteroffer to an employee who has received an outside offer (from an outside organization or other state agency, not within the university). The department and senior management (dean or vice president) of the area should work with their HR representative to determine if a counter-offer is appropriate.

Conversion from classified to university staff

Use this process when a classified staff employee wishes to convert their position to university staff.

Establishing or issuing an award

Award programs may be established as annual programs or may be created as a one-time program to recognize extraordinary performance under unique circumstances. Individual or team awards may be established.

Overtime (FLSA)

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees in the private sector and federal, state, and local governments.

Position conversion

Select the appropriate procedure below if a current staff employee moves to a faculty position or if a current faculty member moves to a staff position.

Promotion

Use the appropriate process below when a salaried faculty or staff member is being promoted through a competitive or non-competitive process. This may or may not involve a change in departments.

Retention bonus

A retention bonus may be used to pre-empt an offer to an employee from an outside institution or organization.

Role change

Actions should be initiatied by the department in the PageUp applicant tracking system when a significant change in duties occurs in a staff or faculty member's current position, even if it does not involve a salary adjustment. Select the appropriate process below.
