Frequently Asked Questions

How is The Employee Giving Campaign different this year?

Due to some restructuring that is happening with the state CVC campaign, Virginia Tech is re-envisioning how we can best support and encourage employees to continue supporting charitable organizations that they are passionate about.

The Employee Giving Campaign maintains our commitment to encouraging employees to donate to nonprofit organizations of their choice. We are spotlighting local charities to provide employees with diverse donation options based on their locations.

With The Employee Giving Campaign, employees can make direct contributions to the charities they select, ensuring that local organizations receive support immediately as we approach the holiday season.

How can I donate to a local nonprofit organization during this year’s campaign?

Give directly to a nonprofit organization of your choice. There are hundreds of organizations in our region, supporting everything from early childhood education, the environment, housing, food security, and more!

While no list is ever complete, here are some resources to help you find a local nonprofit organization:

* These lists of charitable organizations are for informational purposes and are not endorsed by Virginia Tech. Please visit the charitable organization websites to determine if you wish to donate directly to them.

What if I do not see the charity that I wish to support?

If your preferred charity is not listed, please visit their website for more information on how to contribute.

Will there be an administrative fee for employees who participate?

No, there will be no administrative fee for participating in The Employee Giving Campaign.

Can we still send donations to the Division of Human Resources to funds handle?

No, the Division of Human Resources is unable to handle donations for The Employee Giving Campaign. Employees must donate directly to their charity of choice. Any donations received will be returned to sender.

Can we still host department fundraiser events (i.e. chili cookoff, bake sale, or yoga session) this year?

Yes, departments are welcome to continue hosting fundraiser events for their areas. Employees should give directly to the organization the fundraiser is supporting. By creating a free QR code, participants can scan with their cellphone and make donations directly using their credit/debit card. As in years past, departments should continue to follow the university’s funds handling policy (Policy 3600).

* Please note that the Division of Human Resources will not handle any donation funds this year.

Will there be reports about how much each college or organization has raised?

No, since employees will give directly to their charity of choice, the Division of Human Resources will not be able to track or report on funds raised. Departments are welcome to set and track internal goals within their area(s).

Why can’t I use the payroll deduction option on the state’s website?

Due to changes occurring with the state level campaign, employees are not able to give through payroll deduction. Many nonprofit organizations have a reoccurring donation option allowing you to set up a donation plan, if you want to give throughout the year to your nonprofit organization(s) of choice.

Are the payroll deductions I pledged last year still occurring?

Yes, any donations you pledged in the CVC campaign that occurred in Fall 2023 will continue until the last payroll of 2024.

When does the campaign end?

December 2024, although with The Employee Giving Campaign, you can give to your charity(s) of choice anytime. This website will be accessible throughout the year, allowing employees the flexibility to donate as they are able.
