Additional training by role

Below, you will find additional training/resources by job role.  These do not take the place of any departmental training, but rather, serve as an additional source of information for a new hire. You should always consult with your supervisor if you have questions about the training you need for your new role.

  • Academic Advising Initiatives. This comprehensive site contains information on advising onboarding, resources, new student orientation, professional development, and more.

Financial Management provides the Fiscal Training and Development Program aimed at providing progressive training and certifications for fiscal support staff and business managers within the university community.

Finance has developed a finance training site with on-demand training opportunities, as well as registration for the Fiscal Training Program. The on-demand training opportunities instruct employees on their responsibilities, and the certificate programs provide the participants an opportunity to learn policy, procedures, data analytics, and presentations skills while collaborating with other finance employees around campus. Questions related to the finance training can be emailed to fiscaltraining@vt.edu

New Graduate Program Directors (GPDs) and Graduate Coordinators (GCs) may wish to seek access to the systems and resources listed below in service of carrying out their duties in graduate education.

Suggested training: 

It is recommended that you go to the PageUp LMS and enter the search term "human resources" in the learning library. This will pull up a variety of trainings for those with human resources responsibilities. Some examples include the HR 101 series, entering various appointments, entering status changes, and serving as leave representative. Talk with your supervisor about which trainings are most relevant to your role.
