Holidays and Winter Break
The university observes eight (8) holidays (New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day) throughout the year where classes are not in session and the university is normally closed.* In addition, the university is closed for “Winter Break” between Dec. 25 – Jan. 1 each year.* For more information see Virginia Tech's Policy No. 4315: Guidelines on Holidays.
Any additional time off granted by the President of the United States, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, or President of Virginia Tech will be announced as soon as Human Resources is notified. The schedule below includes additional holiday time granted by the governor as denoted with **.
Holidays occurring on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday; holidays occurring on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday.
*Note: Emergency personnel may be required to work on holidays or any days(s) of Winter Break.
