Adding Unplanned Activities
Introduction
Performance plans are built on intention — what we know, what we expect, and what we can reasonably anticipate at the start of the year. A lot can change over the year: budgets shift, leadership transitions happen, strategic priorities evolve, and new opportunities emerge that no one saw coming in at the beginning. The work you end up doing is different from what you originally planned.
The opportunity to add unplanned goals in your Touchpoint phase exists so your performance record can keep up. Whether you took on a new initiative at your supervisor's request, stepped in to lead something outside your original scope, or responded to a university-wide shift in direction, that work deserves to be documented — and credited. Your FAR should reflect your real contributions, not just the ones you could see coming.
