Flexible work options for classified staff

On May 5, 2022, the Commonwealth of Virginia published a new telework policy. The only Virginia Tech employee group subject to the commonwealth’s new policy is classified staff. Effective July 5, 2022, classified staff must follow this policy. 

The process for a classified staff employee to request remote work is as follows:

Complete and submit the State Telework Expression of Interest Form.  Once Human Resources receives the request, please allow up to 30 days for processing. After processing is complete, employees are notified if their telework request is or is not approved. State telework agreements expire on June 30 of each year. 

This new policy does not apply to Virginia Tech's A/P faculty and university staff, because Virginia law authorizes colleges and universities to establish and follow their own personnel policies. Classified staff may choose to convert to university staff in order to remain under Virginia Tech’s policies, including flexible work.
